Bio

Originally from Linköping, percussionist and drummer Martin Salomonsson (b 1978) is a heavily sought after Swedish performer, composer, arranger, and teacher. His music is influenced by both his interest in nature and his early experiences with jazz and Swedish folk music. Martin's compositions may be described as contemplative and cinematic in style.

He studied percussion at the Academy of Music and Drama at the University of Gothenburg under Prof. Einar Nielsen, Daniel Berg, Daniel Norberg, and Bo Holmstrand, and completed his Master of Fine Arts degree in 2005. Since then he has been engaged by many Swedish orchestras, including the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, the Gothenburg Opera Orchestra, the Swedish Chamber Orchestra, Östgöta Blåsarsymfoniker, and the Wermland Opera, among others. He is also a member of the contemporary music ensemble Mimitabu.se, which cooperates with composers, focusing on developing new sounds on acoustic instruments by experimenting with electronics and everyday objects.

Martin is an enthusiastic educator and percussion instructor at the School of Arts in Gothenburg. He arranges music for the indoor percussion group Got Motion which tours all over Europe and has won several awards and competitions. He composes music for percussion, marimba, and other chamber ensembles. Martin also writes, records and performs pop music under his own name.
